While My Guitar...

Ok, so I was going to come up with a pun on the title of a certain Beatles song for the title of this post, something like "While My Guitar Generally Shrieks", but I couldn't think of anything funny, so I gave in.
Anyway, I thought I'd write a word or two about my interest in music:
I wasn't really into music at all until I was about 15 years old. I liked a couple of songs by Queen and Madness that I'd heard, but I never went out of my way to listen to music.
Over the next few years, I began to discover more music I liked. Mainly punk and ska/reggae, some other rock music, and a little bit of big beat and hip-hop thrown in for good measure. This was my staple musical diet until some time in my early twenties.
I also bought an electric guitar when I was 16, and a bass when I was 17. I never really got much better at guitar than I was a year or so after I started, since I've mainly just treated guitar as a bit of fun to mess around with, and never really bothered focusing on practicing techniques.
In my early twenties, my musical tastes began expanding to include a variety of styles including thrash and groove-metal, alternative/underground hip-hop, drum'n'bass (and other electronica), folk (mainly of the punk-influenced variety), some indie-rock, post-hardcore and noise-rock.
I recently took an online songwriting course, and have been trying to write and record some songs of my own. When I feel like I've made some progress in this area, I'll post some recordings.
